THE ARTIST
Obtaining her first camera at the age of 6, Peggi has viewed the world and its offerings through the lens since childhood. Beginning in 1990, at the request of friends and acquaintances, she photographed horse shows, farm and stallion shoots, and many sales and editorial sessions throughout Arizona. In 1996, She gave up her professional career to raise her child, but continued shooting her beloved dogs, horses and children. In 2004, Peggi again began shooting professionally, and currently enjoys an active business doing magazine layouts, photography and a smattering of websites. She takes particular delight in enhancing photographs digitally to be artistic impressions.
A passionate observer, she aims to capture the beauty and spirit, emotion, and physical strength of each subject viewed through the lens. Equipment is state of the art with a Canon EOS D1 Mark II, various lenses, and a traveling laptop. Images are created on location, usually in two parts, the first trying out various situations and techniques, and the second perfecting ideas. Her images document the nature of the subject, capturing unique expression and the "moment" in movement. She is an observer, interested in the magic and mysticism in each creature seen through the lens.
Peggi Johnson’s images and illustrations have appeared in private and commercial applications including: book cover illustrations (Harper Collins), stallion, sales, and dog advertising for clients in magazines such as Dog News, The Chronicle, Paint Horse Journal, Quarter Horse News, Reiner Magazine, Arabian Horse World, Arabian Horse Times; as well as editorial images in The Chronicle of the Horse, Bridle & Bit, catalog covers, premium covers, commerical CD's and many others. Her co-business is Equizotic.com.
THE STUDIO aka The World!
The Studio is the world and the world is my oyster. Most shoots are are done on location. "Location" is wherever the need is best filled. Whether on the mountain, by the lake, or at a show, good weather and bad, all becomes the "Studio." The office is located north of Apache Junction, Arizona, on the side of the Goldfield Mountains, overlooking city and mountain scapes in the Sonoran Desert.
